Working Party, Site and Archaeological Reconstruction
Museums of ICMAH (International Committee for Museums
and Collections of Archaeology and History) request for
information (please email replies to
[log in to unmask]).
The working party is particularly looking for museums
outside Europe, and for general bibliographical items,
especially those in languages other than French.
Definition of Site or Reconstruction Museums:
Site and reconstruction museums are archaeological
sites, or clusters of such sites of all periods and of
every kind, including historic or industrial
archaeology, which consist of conserved rand publicly
displayed remains, and a museum presenting a
collection of objects which have come originally from
the site, and in the case of reconstructions, only
those based on scientific evidence.
The particular case of architectural reconstructions
set up at a distance from the original site has been
kept as a special category in the study. Excluded are
the homes of artists or authors, battlefields of the
two world wars, and open air folklife museums.
To be comprehensive, we must include in this study
projects which are still under development.
