The suggestions so far have been quite interesting, but keep in mind that the
original request was for students in a middle school.

The young adult books I have found so far:

Manes, Stephen. THE GREAT GERBIL ROUNDUP (San Diego, CA: Harcourt Brace
Jovanovich, 1988). In an effort to put the town of Gerbil, PA, on the map, the
residents open up the First National Drive-Thru Museum of American Sightseeing
and Clean Rest Rooms and stage a gerbil roundup and jubilee.

Clifford, Eth. SCARED SILLY (Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1988). Mysetery in a
shoe museum.

Calvert, Patricia. THE STONE PONY (New York: Scribner, 1982). Artifact in a
local museum.

Westall, Robert. THE WATCH HOUSE (New York: Greenwillow Books, 1977). Museum
of shipwrecks has a powerful and evil ghost.

Gleason, Judith I. Santeria, Bronx (New York: Atheneum, 1975). African exhibit
on santeria.
