I would not be revealing too much to say that Ned uses an ultra sonic
humidifier as the source of the visible stuff that forms the Tornedo and
a number of small fans to start and maintain the cyclic movement. Ned at
the Exploratorium could give you more info.

Let me also add that this is definately one of the most beautiful
exhibits I have ever seen.
