The Cultural Resource Management Program at the
University of Victoria is offering a two-day workshop
for museum and heritage professionals who are
interesting in developing effective community consultation
strategies. It has the following description:

Community Connections:
Approaches to Effective Consultation and Partnership

Strong community partnerships provide a cornerstone for
healthy institutions and relevant programs. Developing
and sustaining these relationships, however, demands
that partners work effectively together toward a mutually
agreeable goal. A good partner pays careful attention to
communication and facilitation skills.

This hands-on workshop explores the characteristics of
effective partnerships, and provides an opportunity to
practice a variety of organizational, facilitation and
consensus-building skills. Museum, gallery and heritage
professionals will be better able to identify non-traditional
partners and to develop productive and collaborative
relationships with their varied communities. Topics include:
o getting partners to 'yes'
o the subtle art of facilitation
o demystifying team leadership
o avoiding partner burnout
o community development: joy or pain?

Dates: March 27 - 28
Instructor: Sue Morhun is the Arts and Heritage Supervisor with the
Township of Langley. She brings extensive experience in community
consultation and group facilitation to this course.
Fee: $170
