Richard:  I don't think you can go wrong with Black Baud's Raiser's Edge.
I'd go so far as to say you would be better served by using a PC rather than
a Mac if push came to shove.  Another program you might want to look at is
Fundmaster (I think it's Fox Pro-based).
 
Before you go looking too far afield, have you check in with the Alumni
office to see what program they are using?  Being a Berkeley grad, I'm
constantly being impressed and bombarded by things they send out to the
Bears on the loose.
