Contact! Should have read *all* my mail before sending off my last
message... Any further thought on the RH specs affair? I noticed (c.
1970's) measurable dimensional change in harpsichords between summer and
winter at the same nominal 50% +/- 3% specification at NMAH, and
attributed this to the inevitable small rise in summer and drop in
winter caused by the impossibility of actually maintaining such tight
control as +/-3% in the face of seasonal ambient differences, and HVAC
system capabilities. Cracks in soundboards and lids appeared or enlarged
when the HVAC failed and the RH dropped into the 30's. Seems clear that
complex composite objects have damage potential far greater than simple
samples of wood in a lab test chamber. Regards, Scott
