Susan,
        Some few years back (ca.1984), there was a rather large
exhibit of Chicano art/artifacts (including a beautifully
customized car from East LA) in the main exhibit area of the
Corcoran in Washington.  Not sure how much of a role the
participants had in the plan, however.
