  Dear Ivy,
     Pure Silver will tarnish ( oxidize)! Slowly if kept in a closed
environment. Sulfur will react much more quickly and will will give a
darker color
     Niello is a compound of silver, copper, and lead. It comes black!
As to the silver being bright, It has not meen exposed to damp air or
heat. Keep it that way and it will stay bright. Don't handle it!!!
     Top Ten Dave should be able to give you some more tips.
