Beloit College recently finished a multi-year reconstruction of their
Logan Museum of Anthropology. The Museum is housed in an 1869 Gothic
revival structure -- taller than it is wide -- that was literally crumbling.
The new first floor contains a glass box about 20 feet high, which in
turn contains a large part of the collection, stored on two levels, with
glass shelves and fiberoptic lighting. Many artifacts on the upper level
are turned upside-down. Visitors can walk around the entire
circumference, but they can't enter.
I don't know if Henry Moy (the director) has e-mail. His phone number is
608-363-3677. The Wisconsin Federation of Museums held their meeting
there last April, just before reconstruction was completed.
