THE HARVARD UNIVERSITY ART MUSEUMS announce five internships in various
departments to begin in the fall of 1995. Curatorial interns will share
fully in the curatorial activities of the department, including assisting
with organization, storage, and documentation of the permanent collection,
exhibitions, acquisitions, answering scholarly inquiries and general
correspondence. Interns will participate in the Harvard University Art
Museums curatorial and conservation interns' academic program, including a
weekly seminar. Each intern will define and complete an independent
research project that may result in an exhibition and/or publication. Basic
requirements for all internships include: M.A. in art history or work
toward Ph.D. completed past qualifying paper; demonstrated research and
writing skills.
 
1. BUSCH-REISINGER MUSEUM: Collection devoted to Central and Northern
European art. Specialization in the art of German-speaking Europe and
appropriate language skills are desirable.
 
2. DRAWING DEPARTMENT: Collection of 10,000 European and American drawings
from the 14th-century to the present.
 
3. PRINT DEPARTMENT: Collection of 60,000 Western prints from the 15th
century to the present. Specialization in Western prints is mandatory.
 
 4. PAINTINGS & SCULPTURE: Collections of European and American paintings,
sculpture and decorative arts from end of antiquity to the present.
Applications from candidates with a specialization in any field of Western
paintings, sculpture or decorative arts will be considered; preference may
be given to those with a demonstrated interest in American art. Painting
dept. internship is NEA funded; successful candidate must be U.S. citizen
or permanent resident.
 
5. ANCIENT ART DEPARTMENT: Collections of Greek, Roman, Etruscan, Egyptian
and Near Eastern Art. Specialization in classical art and archaeology
required, interest in ancient bronzes preferred. Intern will be involved in
major bronze exhibition and International Congress. Ancient art dept.
internship is NEA funded; successful candidate must be U.S. citizen or
permanent resident.
 
Internships are 10-months at $19,000 plus benefits. A/D March 15, 1995.
