Hi Jenny. I am a graduate of the George Washington University's
graduate Museum Education Program. It is a 1 year's master's program,
and has an excellent reputation. A very high percentage of us work, or
have worked in the field after graduation, so I think your chances are
good that you can find a job afterwards. The program takes full
advantage of its location (Washington, DC) and the very rich museum
resources available in this region. You spend most of your time actually
in the field, and you make very valuable contacts with people working in
the field. If you want information sent to you, write to Carol Stapp,
Director Museum Education Program The George Washington University
Washington, DC 20052 (202) 994-6820.
I graduated in 1986, and got a terrific job as a Nature Center
Director. (I already had experience as a Naturalist, so was able to jump
right into a mgt type of job.) I am working part-time now at the
Smithsonian Institution in the Accessibility Program. I would be happy
to tell you more if you wish. If you want to call, my number is
202-786-2942. Good luck!
