Hello,
I'm doing research here at the Canadian Museum of Civilization and I'm trying
to track down two references. I was hoping that perhaps someone here on the
list would be able to point me in the right direction as I have come to virtual
deadends with these two. I do realize that this is a long-shot but I'm hoping
that one of the following two may ring someone's bell!
Would anyone know where the drawings and sketches of James G. Swan are now
located? Apparently, 125 drawings were part of the private collection of Frans
Stenzel of Portland(?) Oregon but when he passed on, a number of years ago, his
wife disbursed and sold the drawings to different buyers. I do know where
Swan's papers are but I am keenly interested in trying to locate his drawings
of the Pacific Northwest Coast, specifically of the Haida of the Queen
Charlotte Islands and of the Tsimshian. Would anyone have any suggestions as
to their whereabouts?
I am also trying to locate photographs and fieldnotes for George P. Murdock who
worked in the Anthropology Dept. of Yale University and published a few books
in the late 1930's and early 1940's about the Haida. Apparently, his
negatives, photographs and fieldnotes were not deposited into the Yale
archives. Any clues?
You can contact me off the list at

I appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
Thanks
