After seeing much speculation about the value of 'virtual' museums on the
list this past week, I thought I would share this comment I received from
one of our DMA Online users. For my money at least, this note proves the
value of our online project, and also shows that virtual and real museums
do not compete with each other.

Subject: DMA on the Internet

I just thought that I would give you some feedback on my
experience with the DMA on the Internet.

Recently, I was in Dallas on a business trip and had time to
visit the DMA. It was my first vist to your museum.

After returning home,I told my wife about my visit and how
much I enjoyed it. I had mentioned one painting that I
particuarly like. A couple of days later I was browsing the
web on Prodigy and stumbled accross a topic about museums in
the arts area. I explored further and found the DMA online.
I saw the notation about galleries with images. I went to
the European gallery hoping to find the painting I liked on
the liste (a shepherd holding Romulus and Remus).

There it was! I downloaded the image and then called my
wife into the room to show her the picture on my computer
screen. I kept thinking "This is amazing". I was in Dallas
just a few days ago and saw this painting, and now I can
show it to my wife.

You have added to my enjoyment of the DMA by being able to
share it with my wife.

I look forward to going with herto the DMA and seing this
painting together. She's been before, but we've never been
together.

Thank you for an amazing moment on the Information
Superhighway,

Mark Kelley
