Matt:
First of all, Netscape is free to individual users, or at least
it has been. I have actually never heard of anyone or any
institution paying for it. Second, any page made for any
graphical web browser will look "like crap" if you read it with
Lynx. Even so, I prefer using Lynx to my graphical browser
(Pipeline) on a dial up connection because of speed. Most of the
valuable info, I've found, is text and I can always change over
if I want to see graphics.
Third, Microsofts Net Browser, from what I've heard, will not
come with Microsoft 95, but will be an add-on that can be
purchased as part of a $50 dollar expansion pack.
There always should be people trying the most advanced technology
available. It ends up by trickling down to the rest of us
eventually. Five years ago, many "poor" museums didn't have any
computers, let alone email and Internet access. Now, there is
almost no institution of any size that doesn't have this access
available at truly affordable costs.
So, give this guy a break. If he wants to use Netscape 1X or
Macromind and thereby limit his audience, its all in the cause of
advancing the state of the art. I can wait until my browser can
view this kind of file.
