Concerning the question about the dating of stoves, there is a stove
museum in central Maine that is an interesting place to visit and should be
a good source of information. This is a private collection and the owners
restore and resell stoves. Their "museum" is generally open to the public
at no charge and includes several hundred, with an especially nice
assortment of early 19th century stoves, which were very fancy and unusual.
They have been working to establish a formal museum but I don't know what
the status there is. They could not only give you dates but might also be
able to supply spare parts.
The address is Joe and Beatrice Bryant, Box 2048, Thorndike, ME 04986
(207) 568-3665. Beatrice is the one to talk to; I would have a
manufacturers name and description handy.
