Hi Robin,

If you are considering Canadian venues, may I suggest Wanuskewin Heritage
Park in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan?

Wanuskewin is a National Historic Site containing nineteen archaeological
sites in a concentrated area of about one square mile. Excavations have
revealed bison kill sites, a medicine wheel and numerous habitation areas,
some over 6,000 years old. The 30,000 square foot visitor centre features an
exhibit gallery with a rich interactive natural soundscape, two theatres, an
art
gallery, a working University of Saskatchewan archaeology lab, meeting room,
and restaurant. There are indoor and outdoor activity areas, an outdoor
amphitheatre, an extensive trail system, and personal interpretation by First
Nations staff.

The Park was a collaborative effort among First Nations groups from across
the province, the University of Saskatchewan, architects and exhibit designers.
From the very beginning, we worked closely with a committee of elders to
preserve the integrity of the site and the story. Every aspect of the design,
from
the building to the trail layout to the copy and scripts, was reviewed by the
elders. The Park opened to acclaim in 1992 and is operated by a First Nations
corporation, Wanuskewin Heritage Park Inc..
