Re this continuing thread on advertising...Although I would not want to
see price lists and "junk mail" showing up all over the place, I don't
have a problem with the kinds of announcements we have had so far (except
for the atom bomb plans). I know all our advertisers could spend the time
and money to do web pages, but then I'd have to go look for that too, and
I just don't have the time.
It seems to me that if we can just skip over ads in our professional
magazines, ripping out for future reference those that interest us, we
could do the same with ads in the list. After all, even NPR and PBS
carries advertising information in a quiet way.
Here's a suggestion--why don't list-members who want to send something
that might be considered self-promotional info just use the prefix "ad" in
their subject line? Then you could skip it without even looking at it. Or
include something in your signature line?
Frankly, I find the ads less distracting than the odd personal messages
that keep popping up.
