We have just received, with no strings attached, three textile items, in
conjunction with a gift of papers and photographs. The donor was prepared to
consign them to the "ash heap of history" (literally) and I interposed to
salvage them until their historical significance (if any) could be determined.
If they are deemed to be worthless, then I can go ahead and direct them to the
aforementioned ash heap. They are:

1. An Irish barrister's wool coat and vest from the late 19th century.
Condition: fair, but with some moth damage.
2. A wall hanging from India, purchased in the U.S. in the 1920s, date of
fabrication unknown. Illustrated with images relating to Indian folk tales.
Condition: fair, but fragile.
3. Front flap from North African tent, bearing Arabic characters. Condition:
poor.

If anyone on the list knows of any institution with a collecting focus that
might include any or all of these items, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks very much.
