When we launched our $8.5 million capital campaign last year we changed our
name from the Indianapolis Art League to the Indianapolis Art Center in
order to convey that when the campaign is done we will truly be the center
of visual art activities in Indianapolis...We have been doing a wide
variety of visual art things since 1934 including classes, exhibitions,
outreach, collaborative projects, etc. and the word "center" seemed more
accurate than "league," which implied a private and somewhat exclusive
group of people (the original name came from a desire to link in quality
level to the Art Students' League in NYC).
Hope this helps.
