To Mr. Smith et al re: definition of wayfinding: "Knowing where you are,
knowing your destination, knowing and following the best route, recognizing
your destination and finding your way back."
wayfinding systems: design elements (signs, etc.), operational elements
(orientation, communication), behavior, (staff training).
wayfinding studies: designed to better understand how the physical environment
facilitates or inhibits easy wayfinding, to understand how unfamiliar visitors
and staff at a given institution or setting find their way around the facility
and to design and develop a comprehensive plan for improving wayfinding ease
in future...(adapted from an in-house document).
Obviously not as relevant concern in small institution. Hope this helps.
