Yes, there are lots of success stories.  Forefront in my mind are Bill
Kirby, Canada Council Arts Bank in Ottawa (no email, I believe) and Johanna
Humphries at National Museum of Natural History, DC.  Johanna (or her SI
colleagues) my apologies, I know you are out there - can you please forward
Johanna's email or phone number to the person who posted this barcode
querry?
 
There is also at least one article in a past issues of Spectra on barcoding
in museums (vol 20, No. 1, Winter 1993.  Back issues can be ordered from
the MCN office or obtained from your nearest MCN member's library.
