Dear Yousif:
One of the best people to contact for information on this subject is Jawaid
Haider, Ph.D. He's one of the few people I could find who has actually
produced scholarly research on the subject. He is an associate professor of
architecture at Penn State. He has been investigating architecture for
children since 1987 and recently completed a project entitled Children's
Museums: An Inquiry Into Issues in Architectural Design. In addition to his
writings, he has also produced two videos: Architecture and Play: Learning
from Children's Museums (12-14 minutes) and Architecture and Children's
Museums: Through the Looking Glass (30 minutes).
He wrote the lead article for our Hand to Hand issue devoted to the subject
of children's museums and architecture. I know Mary Clancy Haack of the
Association of Youth Museums has already contacted you. You can get a back
copy of this issue directly from her. In addition to Jawaid's piece, it
contains two other excellent articles about building children's museums.
