The CENTRE FOR TRAVEL & TOURISM at the University of Northumbria,
Newcastle upon Tyne, UK is holding a major international conference,
September 14th-18th 1996 at historic Longhirst Hall, Northumberland,
UK.

The Conference is entitled: TOURISM AND CULTURE: TOWARDS THE 21st
CENTURY and will focus upon the relationship between tourism and all
aspects of culture - heritage, the arts, literature, music, film,
theatre, festivals and sport.

Proposals for papers are invited in a wide range of areas including:

Marketing culture as a tourist commodity;
Tourism and the visual arts;
Museums as part of the tourist product;
The role of heritage in the tourism industry;
The economics of heritage tourism;
Management of cultural attractions;
Tourism and literary connections;
The social and economic impacts of tourism upon culture.

We would particularly welcome contributions which offer perspectives
on tourism and culture into the next century.  Proposals of no more
than 500 words should be submitted as soon as possible.  Final
deadline for proposals is October 25th 1995.  Full versions of
accepted papers, which will appear in the conference proceedings
should be submitted at the latest by June 28th 1996.
