The company you are refering to is Continuum.  It is owned by Bill Gate's
MicrSoft - at least in part but I believe MS owns Continuum fully. Continuum
publishes CDROMs for Museums and private collectors of Art.  I should point
out that at the AAM meeting in Seattle there was a session with a rep from
Continuum who mentioned the high price of producing the CDROMs  (only part of
his talk that stuck with me).  Continuum did the interactive program for the
Seattle Art Museum so you could get better information from them then from
me.
 
I would love a better reference for the Newsweek article if possible - I'm
researching visual databases for my MA Thesis.  Thanks!
