Just a quick response to Byron Johnson's not about CEO and President taking
over for Director and Exec. Director. I can't speak for others, but at
my institution, the volunteer leader of the Board used to be called the
President and the paid professional was called the Director. Several
years ago the by laws were changed to make the President the Chair of the
Board of Trustees and to confer both titles, president and director, on the
paid professional. IN addition, I am routinely referred to as CEO by
others. I don't think these changes presage the corruption of the
institution's mission; they are instead an acknowledgement of the reality
of our operations in the structure that governs us.
