I agree with the sentiments of Christine Howard that the Seattle Art Museum
public spaces are confusing. While visiting it during the recent AAM meeting,
I walked up and down the long staircase that takes up (i.e. wastes) a side
of the new building, wondering how to enter the galleries. A museum ought to
make the visitor feel intelligent, not stupid, and the first way it does so
is by providing an obvious entrance (including sight lines) to the spaces the
visitor has entered the building to see.
