Someone on Museum-L asked whether there was a digital hygrothermograph
with the capacity to download data to a computer.
Outdoorsy type environmental scientists who need to collect long term
temperature and RH have been using digital data loggers for some time.
My husband, who works at the Freshwater Institute, Winnipeg, Canada, just
happened to have a brochure for these loggers on his desk this week.
I don't know if any museums or archives are using these loggers but it
does seem to be worth an inquiry. There does not seem to be a logger
that records both temperature and humidity. You would have to buy two
separate devices, one for each purpose. The loggers collect data in
digital format which can then be downloaded via a cable and software
interface with a PC or Mac. Presto, no more charts and pens. They are
reasonably priced ($99 US for the temperature logger with an additional
$50 or so for cable and software).
