The response to yesterday's post about the robotic specimen
browser at UC Berkeley was great. We had a significant
increase in traffic from museums. And got some valuable
feedback that will enable us to improve the interface for
use by a museum oriented audience.
We've added hyper-text labels to the icons on the opening window
of the Mechanical Gaze interace. We're increasing the documentation
that describes the registration process. For now keep in mind
that you DO NOT have to be registered to view specimens/objects
under the robot. Guest Login gives you access to all online
exhibits.
Registered users gain a few additional privileges. When navigating the
robot, they are provided the roll and pitch control tools. These two
tools permit full control of all robot axes. For non-registered users
these tools are replaced with the simplified zoom in and zoom out
buttons to guide the robot. Also, only registered users are permitted
to leave comments about the various exhibits.
When Registering:
Make sure that your entries conform to the following criteria:
User names must be at least 3 characters
User names may be at most 15 characters
User names may not contain any spaces
E-mail address may not be left blank
E-mail address may not be over 60 characters
E-mail address may not contain any spaces
URL pointer may not contain any spaces
We hope you'll try the robotic specimen viewer. New
exhibits will be coming online later this month. Thanks
for your feedback.
Natalie
