Cultural Resource Management Program
Fall 1995 at the University of Victoria
Regitration is underway for "Collections Management" (October 11-20), a
10-day immersion course offered by the Cultural Resource Management
Program at the University of Victoria, Canada.
Course Description

Museum objects are held in trust to ensure that their unique physical
and cultural values are preserved for the present and future. The key to
fulfilling this trust is effective collections management. This
intensive course provides your with a comprehensive examination of
essential policies and procedures for developing, organizing and
managing collections. Topics include:
o collections policies
o acquisitions and disposals policies and processes
o legislation affecting collection and legal aspects of gifts and
bequests
o collections storage and retrieval
o documentation and information management systems
o cataloguing and classification
o appraisals
o risk management and insurance
o loans and exhibitions
Instructor: Dr. Sonja Tanner Kaplash is a consultant specializing in
museum and collections management. She is the former registrar of the
the Royal Ontario Museum.

Fee: $589 (Credit or Non-credit)
