Go through the New York Times and Washington Post indexes at a well-stocked
library. Otherwise, check also 'Air Force Magazine' and 'American Legion'
magazine, both of which contributed to publicizing the veterans' view of the
issue (throughout 1994--check also the letters to the editor. Some are points
welltaken which all of us should consider, others are, to put it mildly, quite
off-the-wall). In 'Air & Space Smithsonian' there are a couple of editorial by
Martin Harwitt and an official response in one of the summer'94 issues. In the
mueum-L archive, Mr. Burchardt of the Washington Post also listed most of his
paper's articles. Last but not least, look at the Sunday Times week in review
section of a couple of weeks ago. It contains a general schematic of what the
show was supposed to look like before it was canned. If you have the means to
get hold of audi archives, NPR's 'All Things Considered" carried an interesting
piece on the day of the exhibit's cancellation, including the precious "museums
aren't for history, museums are to show things..." by one congressman. Next
stop, scenility.
