Another way around the stuffed-mailbox and too-many-topics problems is
to read bit.listserv.museum-l on Usenet news.  That way, the material
never gets into your mailbox in the first place, and with most
newsreading programs you can save the items you're interested in, and
download them etc.
 
That's what I do, these days.
