Re. moving walkways:
 
I remember vividly the moving walkway used at the 1964-65 New York World's
Fair to keep people moving in front of Michelangelo's "Pieta."  I hated
the walkway, because it permitted only one view of the object, and didn't
let me stand and study the object at any length.  I understood why it was
there, though:  the safety of the object, and the number of visitors to
be accommodated, had to be taken into consideration.
