I guess my fear is that if we wait on bringing historical
analysis to students, they will only know the rote facts and
never appreciate the whole picture. I am trying to explain to my
18 year old the problems we faced in the 60's - chosing to fight
for civil rights and stands on the Vietnamese War. Now it is
facutal history - and we know who the good guys were. It wasn't
clear then, and to wait until you are a history major in college
means only a select view even get exposed to the IDEA of
multi-sided history.
Kids can grasp the concept of decisions - look at their
literature called Choose your own Adventure.
You could even do a neat display of the roads taken and not
taken. I.E. Pacificism prior to World War II; you pick a topic.
