The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is seeking a collections intern for summer 2022. The position is 32 hours per week at a rate of $12 per hour.

Title: Collections Intern
Reports to: Registrar
Hours: Tues-Friday 9am-5pm or 32 hrs per week 
Rate: $12.00 per hour
Start Date: June 1, 2022 (flexible) 
Period: 10 weeks 

Summary 
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum seeks (1) Collections Intern to work with the Registrar on special projects related to collections care. The Collections Intern will assist museum staff and volunteers in the inventorying and processing of new acquisitions as well as the organization of collections storage spaces. The intern will also assist with imputing data into the Museum’s collections management database, photographing works in the collection for internal use, gallery maintenance, and other activities as assigned that will further the intern’s experience. This opportunity will allow the intern to gain practical, hands-on experience working directly with museum artifacts and to learn proper handling of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional artifacts. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities 
Assist in processing collections including inventorying, cataloging, labeling, photographing, and housing 
Assist in organizing collections storage spaces 
Assist in maintaining the museum collection database through data entry and editing 
Conduct research in order to identify and interpret museum collections 
Assist in gallery maintenance 
Other duties as assigned 



Desired Qualifications 
Current student or recent graduate with a MA, MS, or BA in museum studies, history, public history, anthropology, or a related discipline 
Knowledge of material culture and accepted standards and practices for storage and handling of objects 
Familiarity with collections management database systems; experience with PastPerfect preferred 
Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing up to 45 lbs 
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills 
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
