Greetings,
In the past, I have used it at a few museums to indicate items that
had physical restrictions (hazardous materials, radiation, or
structural instability) or administrative restrictions (conditional
deeds, subject to NAGPRA repatriation, etc) that would prevent the
item's use in an exhibit. However, it is entirely up to each museum's
policies and procedures for how items are cataloged.
