Gaston County is currently recruiting for the position listed below. All candidates must be able to perform the essential job duties as identified and meet minimum qualification requirements for the position as advertised.
TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ART & HISTORY (Position #AH0003)
LOCATION: Gaston County Museum

PAY SCALE: $47,476 – $75,962 Annually (Exempt-not eligible for overtime)
APPOINTMENT: Full Time
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (NOTE: The duties listed below are not inclusive of all of the duties that may be assigned to the position but are considered as essential to the nature of the job).
• Organize, manage, and implement the Museum’s Interpretation Plan. Assist in broadening the organizations perspective to be more inclusive to the County’s history and community.
• Organize and manage the special events and public programming initiatives for the Museum.
• Organize partnerships and collaborations with other non-profit organizations in the region to better serve the community and inspire the preservation of the regions historic and artistic traditions.
• Manage the programs departments’ budget and assist in organizing proper budgeting practices throughout the organization.
• Assist the Director in organizing restoration plans and renovation initiatives for Museum structures and grounds.
• Assist in organizing cross departmental groups that will design/update Museum exhibits, implement new interpretation practices, and facilitate goals set by the Museum’s five year strategic plan.
• Oversee the marketing and advertisement initiatives of the Museum.
• Assist in organizing and leading museum committees.
• Assist in fundraising and community support initiatives for the Museum.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in History, Art or related field and a minimum of 3 years professional experience in museum management or related work and/or experience organizing public programs for the museum or historic site. A Master’s Degree in Museum Studies or Public History preferred.
The candidate selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL OR ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Minimum hazardous working conditions. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
