The Wisconsin Maritime Museum is hiring a Research and Library Assistant and an Events Coordinator.
Research and Library Assistant
Part time: 10 - 15 hours/week
Hourly salary: $10 - $13 DOE

Essential Job Functions:
This position reports to the Director of Collections & Registration and supports the Wisconsin Maritime Museum by fulfilling research requests and providing research services to patrons. This position will also assist in the management of the Museum’s archive and library materials and contribute to updating policies and procedures for processing archival materials according to best practices.
Responsibilities include:
• Replying to online/electronic and telephonic research requests
• Conducting research and providing information to patrons
• Administer research center policies and handling procedures governing the use of archival materials
• Scan photos and archival materials
• Deliver blueprints and drawing to outside vendor for reproduction, as needed
• Assist with processing new archival collections in various formats; organizing Archives Storage as needed, and developing appropriate finding aids
• Provide research assistance for Museum programs and publications
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Information Science & Technology or related area of study; one year related experience or an equivalent educational background in libraries, archives, or historical professions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of general archival and library principles, practices, and concepts, especially as they relate to public services work
• Knowledge of research strategies and methods, archives and library reference tools, and sources used in genealogical and local history research
• Ability to train and lead student workers, explaining, delegating, and monitoring tasks
• Effective computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet creation and manipulation, data entry, and database searching
The successful candidate will have exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, computer, proofreading, and customer service skills; the ability to communicate with diverse constituents; and the willingness to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team. This position requires the ability to manage confidential information, show excellent judgment, prioritize and maintain multiple projects, and demonstrate flexibility and a professional work ethic.

Events Coordinator
Estimated 20-30 hours/week
Rate: $11 – 12 DOE

POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The Events Coordinator supports the management of all internal and external events and is responsible for primary aspects of the summer Sub Pub at the Museum. This position reports to the Director of Education and Programs.
DUTIES:
Collaborate with museum staff on all aspects of internal events, developing and managing budgets and production timelines, working with all pertinent vendors (caterers, florist, valet, audio visual), processing all payments, liaising with any other applicable departments, coordinating seating, arranging security, and supervising the event itself.
• Manage and coordinate all aspects of summer Sub Pub operations.
• Booking, tracking, and reporting on all groups such as adults, youth and Scouts.
• Work closely with Marketing and Communications to develop and manage the production and promotion of museum events and rentals.
• Create and maintain records for event rentals including a detailed timeline and specific responsibilities of staff and volunteers.
• Assist and support the Executive Director in all Board of Trustees-related events.
• Manage and coordinate all logistical aspects of Sub Pub including: purchasing bar supplies, track and report on bar sales, coordinating with caterers, coordinating volunteers and staff.
• Provide information to potential rental clients, promote rental opportunities, walk-through rental spaces and opportunities with potential rental clients.
• Coordinate with Maintenance Supervisor to set-up and break-down events.
• Be a key staff member for SubFest, our annual community engagement weekend.
• Perform other events related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience planning and executing events
• Experience managing bar or service industry operations
• Willing and able to become a certified bartender in Manitowoc, WI
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to plan budgets and meet deadlines
• Creative, energetic, positive and goal oriented
• Maturity, confidence, and presence to be able to work effectively with donors, senior executives, vendors, volunteers, and Museum Trustees and staff on all levels
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Flexible schedule and willing to work additional hours/weekends as needed
• Knowledge of special event protocol, professionalism and etiquette required
