Many thanks to the persons who responded to my query regarding ethnic
heritage/immigration exhibitions. As promised, here is a list of the
institutions that feature them gleaned from your contributions to this
query:
* The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, AUS
* The Museum of Victoria in Melbourne, AUS
* The Migration Museum in Adelaide, AUS
* The Buffalo Historical Society has "Neighbors," about immigration
and ethnic communities in Western New York.
* Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University
(near Niagara Falls) continually does exhibitions and programs about
community traditions in Western New York--Puerto Rican, Italian-Catholic,
Polish-Catholic etc.
* Vancouver Museum (Vancouver, B.C.) did an exhibition last year entitled
"Making a Living, Making a Life
* "American Encounters" at the National Museum of American History,
Smithsonian, focuses on the experiences of Hispanics, Pueblo Indians and
Anglos in New Mexico.
* Ellis Island, NY
* The Institute of Texan Cultures, San Antonio
A special thanks to list members from Australia, several of whom responded
on what must be a wonderful range of exhibits. I have written to see if
text is available for them.
I am sure there must be other successful immigration/ethnic heritage out
there. If you know of them, please e-mail, I will add them to the list and
post an update later. We are even interested in past exhibits if there is
label copy or video still available.
