Shannon,
We use drapery weights that we buy from local fabric stores (like JoAnn
Fabrics). Fairly inexpensive, small, clean, easy to buy. We also humidify
documents that are donated to us before we even attempt to unfold, unroll or
even read. We bought under the bed storage containers from Target, and that
has worked for us.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Paperweights-make your own?
I have a large collection of rolled architectural drawings which need to be
placed flat in flat file drawers. The documents are in very good condition;
not brittle, etc. They just have that "memory" of being rolled. I have
looked into the lead weight bags at Gaylord--too expensive. I have 30
drawers to fill and will probably need four weights per drawer. Also, the
availability of lead shot in NY has become harder to obtain due to
environmental regulations, so making my own with Lead is out.
Has anyone made their own weights and what have you used?
Thanks, Shannon Lindridge
