It depends on how many copies you need. If you're doing a very limited run, those services can be okay, but the cost per copy is often higher. I also don't think the quality is as good. I'd be happy to chat with you (or anyone else who's interested) further about numbers and best practices.

We have two upcoming projects that need catalogues and/or souvenir books to sell in our Museum Shop, and we need advice on how to handle production. Can anyone how has used Lulu or Blurb or similar online publishers offer any advice? How does that process differ from having a designer do the layout in InDesign and sending it to a local/regional printer for printing and binding?
