Hi Lonnie,
When I design our field trip tours, I use object based lessons. So, for example, I encourage students to ask "W" questions - who, what, when, why, and how- about objects in our tour. This encourages participants to have a more interactive experience. An interpretative tour, on the other hand, would be a docent or guide giving students their own interpretations and observations about the artwork. Object based learning helps students become active learners. This approach works with adult education as well.
