Internship Opportunities

Program Description

This internship provides a unique experience by exposing the student to a range of positions within the organization. The student chooses from several departments with available internship positions and then rotates between those departments during the internship, gaining an understanding of how several different departments within the museum operate, their roles and responsibilities, and how they connect to the overall mission of the organization. A student can choose to stay in a particular department if a position is available. 

The following departments available are:

Library and Archives
Collections Management
Education
Exhibits

Library and Archives Internship
The Library and Archives internship is geared towards those students interested in a career in archives, historic research, library sciences, and museum studies. Duties will vary according to availability of projects and student interest.

Learning Goals/Objectives: Projects include assisting in processing and organizing materials for various collections housed in the Archives and/or process new materials for the Reference, Lending Library, and Special collections.

Collections Management Internship
The Collections Management internship will expose the intern to how collections in a museum are stored, documented, and cared for. Duties will vary according to availability of projects and student interest. 

Learning Goals/Objectives: Project may include any combination of cataloguing; assisting with the storage and organization of collections; and researching artifacts.  

Education Internship
The education intern will assist to create educational activities related to the field of horology and share your developments with the museum public and community. Develop and test educational program components  (make and take activities, demonstrations, workshops, etc.) Collaborate with museum staff to plan and implement these programs. 

Learning Objectives/Goals: Learn to create informal education activities related to the field of horology. Learn to interpret scientific concepts in an engaging way for a broad visiting audience. Hone skills to work independently as well as a member of a team. 

Exhibits Internship
The exhibits internship will expose the intern to how exhibits in a museum are developed, researched, and installed. Duties will vary according to availability of projects and student interest.

Learning Goals/Objectives: Work behind the scenes on the research, installation, de-installation, and up-keep of exhibits; help with openings and public functions, and more.
