Patrick--I think we should talk. If you are interested, please email me at [log in to unmask] I have some ideas I'd like to run by you.
There are major issues with the peer-review process as it stands and, as you note, many problems when it comes to making money around journals. My interest is purely in dissemination and generation of new ideas and knowledge. Like you said, a new journal should take into about new publishing models. I have no interest in stepping on anyone's toes which is why I have waited and watched and participated intensely for the past 5 years (academically) and 20 years (professionally) before speaking up. I see the gap. I think there are already existing entities that could take such a journal on but maybe it would be better if it started without those structures? I don't know; I'm simply exploring and curious. I never want to be so presumptuous to assume that what I think is what everyone else thinks, hence the post here on Museum-L.
