Dumbarton House, national headquarters and AAM-accredited historic house museum of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America, is undergoing an exciting transformation. Guided by a revised mission statement and visionary strategic plan, and governed by an engaged and dedicated board, the institution has experienced five successive years of growth—in museum visitation and contributions. With multiple projects on the horizon, the Education Manager will have a unique opportunity to create and guide interpretation and programming toward being the leading regional institution in the field.

The successful candidate will achieve the following in his/her first year:
 Initiate the comprehensive implementation of Dumbarton House’s new Interpretive Plan;
 Build strong, collaborative relationships internally with volunteer and paid education staff, and externally with program constituents, community members, and potential new supporters/partners;
 Create and launch 4 dynamic, new, mission-based public programs;
 Review, revamp, and re-launch educational school and Scout programs, considering focus on STEM, preservation, and citizenship topics, and relevance to current curriculum standards and Scout badge requirements;

 Develop plan to:
o expand volunteer and part-time staff enrichment opportunities and training program;
o increase active volunteer docent corps;
o formalize and expand garden, collections, and administrative volunteer program; and

 Plan and execute annual education budget, support exhibit planning, assist with grant-writing, and represent the museum at professional venues.

Qualifications:
 Palpable enthusiasm for the preservation/education mission of Dumbarton House and ability/willingness/passion to share that enthusiasm with others;
 Advanced degree in museum education or related field;
 Minimum 2 to 3 years of proven achievement in program development, teaching, and volunteer management;
 Solid organizational skills with the ability to work independently, proactively, and as a team member;
 Strong written and oral communications skills, high degree of initiative and attention to detail;
 Superb interpersonal skills to work with diverse patrons, public, and volunteer and paid staff
 Highly organized team-player, with a proven ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects/deadlines; and
 Diplomacy, ability to maintain high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
