Internship at The Gaston County Museum

The Gaston County Museum is currently seeking an education intern for Fall/Winter 2014. The education intern will work with the programs staff in developing and conducting educational programs and special events at the museum. This will include, but not limited to, providing guided tours of the museum, participating in school programs both at the museum and at local schools, dressing in 1800s attire, assisting in special events at the museum, and creating new programs to be offered at the museum. The intern will have a special project assigned to them to be determined upon arrival. Examples of projects include researching primary documentation to update our docent manual, developing our summer initiatives, or creating a media/marketing plan for the museum programs.
The successful candidates will be detail oriented, organized, and able to work independently. Must be able to work with and meet deadlines, lift up to 25 pounds, and climb stairs and ladders. Preference will be given to candidates with previous museum work or course experience and/or candidates wishing to pursue a career in museums.
The internships are unpaid, but dates are flexible with beginning in the fall of 2014 and continuing until the internship hours are completed. Typically, interns work around 20 to 25 hours a week and finish their internships in 4 months.
