Good Morning Regan,
Having worked full-time in a museum setting for almost 40 years, and having been asked that question on many occasions ..... the responses I usually receive, cluster around:
1. "I have never met someone who did that for a living;"
2. "That must be fascinating,"........ To which my response is, "Yes, it sure beats WORKING for a living! (I once WORKED in a south Louisiana shipyard in the summer....read: heat, humidity, welding, and mosquitos....);
3. "Exactly,....how does one prepare oneself to work in a museum?"
4. "When (what age) did you know, you wanted to work in a museum?"......
Best Wishes,
Wesley

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] a question for the list
Morning listers!
I'm doing a brief, informal survey to get some back-up for what I see trending amongst my own co-workers. This is for a blog post for our institution's website.
When someone in a (non-institutional) social setting asks what you do for a living and you respond - what is the most common reaction you receive?
Thanks!
