This sounds like a fantastic opportunity for all of the reasons others
have mentioned. The location also affords your institution the
opportunity to make a statement about conservation, use of public
transportation, and adaptive reuse of unusual spaces. I've worked with a
number of institutions developing concepts and plans for the use, or
reuse, of unusual spaces. These have included the interiors of ships,
underground vaults, historic structures and more. I'd be very interested
in helping you assess the sapce and potentially plan for its use if you
decide to explore this idea further. I have an association with a firm
in the Portland area who could also be of help to a project of this type.
