                     Edison Birthplace Association
                              Milan Ohio
 
     My name is Robert Wheeler,  President of the Edison
     Birthplace Association in Milan, Ohio, writing you about the
     150th Anniversary of Thomas Edison's birth on Febuary 11,
     1997 - about two and a half years away.
 
     The Board of Directors of the Edison Birthplace Association
     has requested me to solicit ideas on how to provide for
     broad participation in the sesquicentennial year.  The board
     is seeking nominations of parties to serve on a steering
     committee who will be given responsibility to plan and
     coordinate activities.  If you or someone you know would be
     interested in serving on this committee, please request an
     application form from me.  We will make the initial
     appointments at our Board meeting in August.
 
     I welcome your thoughts and ideas on how to broaden
     appreciation of Thomas Edison.  I hope you will accept this
     invitation to join us in this effort to raise awareness of
     the life and work of the man who invented the 20th Century.
