4/7/2012 Hi, Marilyn
This doesn't quite fit your survey of floral arrangements inspired by
objects in a museum's collections. But it's in the same spirit, and I
thought you'd want to know about it.
Part 2 of the exhibition, Botanica Magnifica: Photographs by Jonathan
Singer, New Jersey State Museum (4/21/2012-8/26/2012) will include a
large photograph of a floral arrangement.
Dr. Singer commissioned Remco Van Vliet, Van Vliet & Trap, to design
the arrangement. The bouquet pays homage to the 17th century Dutch
masters who in part inspired Singer's distinctive style of botanical
photography (take a look at his book, Botanica Magnifica
http://www.abbeville.com/bookpage.asp?ISBN=9780789210333 )
You'll recognize Van Vliet's name as the Metropolitan Museum of Art's
floral/events designer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGJBC6Y1LO4
The New Jersey State Museum greets its visitors with striking flower
arrangements, underwritten by a special Friends of the Museum fund,
but I haven't noticed connections to the collections.
Karen
PS I just learned about another show and book that might also be of
interest for your research: Rosamund Purcell's photographs at the
Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia
