A bottle of morphine tablets dating back to World War I was stolen from a
display at the Cashmere Museum's pioneer village on Friday night
** For 2nd year, US museums see funding declines, budget stress while
attendance increases

the second year in a row, while attendance continued to increase in many
locations last year
** Antiquities Minister Zahi Hawass convicted
Hawass was convicted of failing to implement a court order in a dispute with

Tutankhamun's trumpet was one of the rare artefacts stolen from the Cairo

** A Chastised Museum Returns to Life
Years of operating deficits had led to heavy borrowing from its endowment
and eventually to the sale of two Hudson River School paintings to cover
expenses, an art world sin for which it received a rare censure: sanctions
from the Association of Art Museum Directors
** Rome's bloody, art-loving emperor Nero in new show
It's safe to say that the Emperor Nero - the subject of a major new
exhibition and archaeology trail that opened in the Roman Forum this week -
has always had something of an image problem
** Nazi medical experiments exhibit opens in Boston
Organizers say the exhibition will reveal the role scientists, physicians,
public health officials, and academics played in implementing the Nazis'
program of "racial hygiene."
** French artists allegedly vandalized LA buildings
Los Angeles police are looking for two French citizens suspected of
vandalizing a downtown office building near where a groundbreaking graffiti
art exhibit will open on Sunday

** Guggenheim Museum recreates tragic sinking of Titanic in chilling
concert
At one point a guitarist attached a piece of masking tape to the
fingerboard, turned up the amp and then slowly peeled back the tape to
recreate the unnerving sound of the ice ripping into the ship
** Boston Science Museum Offering Segway Tours
The museum bought a fleet of 30 Segways, each featuring bright red fenders
and the museum's logo on the wheel coverings; it plans on four tours of six
people each per day at first, hopefully increasing as the weather improves
and word gets out
